BACOLOD City – An employee of the city government of Talisay was shot dead at their residence in Carmela Valley, Barangay Zone 12-A, Talisay City, Negros Occidental on Tuesday morning, March 5.

Mike Lumawag, 45, was a treasury staff assigned to the city hall’s land tax division and was a person with disability (hearing impaired).

According to Lieutenant Colonel Salvador Trono Jr., chief of Talisay City Police Station, Lumawag had returned home after dropping off his child at school when he was approached and shot by an unidentified suspect riding a motorcycle.

The victim attempted to run inside the house, but the helmet-wearing suspect reportedly followed. Lumawag was later found slumped dead inside their kitchen.

Trono said they are currently looking at personal and work matters as the main motives for the murder of Lumawag.

Mayor Nilo Jesus Antonio Neil Lizares III of Talisay City expressed his condolences for the loss of a city employee, offered sympathies to the victim’s family, and lamented the tragic killing.

In a statement, Lizares emphasized that such acts of violence have no place in the city and assured that the Talisay City Police Station would deliver justice. He also urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist in the investigation./PN
