DEPARTMENT of Health (DOH) chief Teodoro Herbosa yesterday ordered the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) to include ultrasound and mammogram in its Konsulta benefit package.
Herbosa said he had instructed the state insurer’s benefits committee to work on adding the said medical imaging procedures “for immediate implementation nationwide.”
“This will ensure sustainable financing of preventive health services that can catch cancer and other conditions early, so that we can unload higher level hospitals within the health care provider network,” said Herbosa, chairman of the PhilHealth Board of Directors.
The Health chief’s order follows the call of several lawmakers to expand the PhilHealth coverage to primary care screening services like ultrasound and mammography. (ABS-CBN News)
