PVL All-Filipino: Choco Mucho vents ire at Akari

MANILA – Choco Mucho Flying Titans returned to their winning ways in the PVL 1st All-Filipino Conference with a dominant 25-17, 25-22, 25-21 triumph over Akari Power Chargers over the weekend at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.

Cherry Ann Rondina spearheaded the offense with 13 points on 11 attacks and two service aces for the Flying Titans, which tied Cremaline Cool Smashers and PLDT High Speed Hitters on top with a 5-1 win-loss record.

Madeleine Madayag also made her presence felt with 11 points to be named Player of the Game, while Honey Royce Tubino contributed 11 points as a fill-in starter for Kat Tolentino.

In the pivotal second set, the Power Chargers committed consecutive errors from Gretchel Soltones, Celine Domingo, and Dindin Santiago-Manabat to break a 22-all score and clinch the set win for the Flying Titans.

In the third set, Choco Mucho clawed back from a 17-20 deficit to take a slim 21-20 lead before they pulled away courtesy of conversions from Rondina and Tubino and finished the match in three sets.

Faith Nisperos wound up with 12 points, 12 excellent receptions, and 10 digs, while Manabat and Soltones added nine and seven points, respectively, as the Power Chargers dropped to 2-4.

Meanwhile, the High Speed Hitters moved to a share of the top spot after a dominant 25-9, 25-13, 25-21 victory over Farm Fresh Foxies. Savannah Davison finished with 21 points, including three kill blocks, while Mary Joy Baron added 11 markers in the win.“We were able to bring our momentum from our last game, mas nakilala namin ‘yung team namin na nagka-character dahil sa experience namin against the (Choco Mucho) Flying Titans,” Baron said.

Galeries Tower Highrisers, on the other hand, leaned on an explosive showing from Grace Bombita to beat Strong Group Athletics 25-17, 25-14, 25-12, for a rare back-to-back win.

The former Jose Rizal University Lady Bombers standout waxed hot with 16 points as the Highrisers improved to a 2-4 win-loss record. The SGA dropped their sixth straight game./PN
