BACOLOD City – To rehabilitate coastal areas and marine ecosystems in Negros Occidental, a total of 5,000 mangrove propagules were planted in Barangay Daan Banua, Kabankalan City.

The tree planting activity on Saturday, March 23, was spearheaded by the Office of the Vice President (OVP)-Panay and Negros Island Satellite Office in cooperation with the local government of Kabankalan City, the barangay staff of Daan Banua, and Rebolusyonaryo Alyansang Makabansa.

The activity aims to protect nature and continue the campaign to prepare for the impacts of climate change on communities.

Meanwhile, four associations from this city received a livelihood grant of P150,000 each from Mag Negosyo Ta Day program of the OVP last week.

These were the Kabalaka People’s Livelihood Association, the Manayaosayao Farm Workers Association, the Adiangawan Small Farmers Association, which will all grow and produce mushroom products, and the Concerned Crop and Livestock Producers Association, which focuses on poultry and egg laying.

The program aims to provide entrepreneurial opportunities to those who belong to vulnerable and disadvantaged sectors./PN
