ILOILO City – The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) is warning holders of guns with expired licenses that search warrants against them will be out soon should they refuse to renew.
PRO-6 spokesperson Major Mary Grace Borio is calling on those firearm holders with expired licenses, as she emphasized that the police campaign against loose firearms is being intensified.
Records from Regional Civil Security Unit 6 showed that as of March 10, there were 30,838 firearms with unrenewed licenses, or loose firearms, in Western Visayas.
Of this, Iloilo province has the highest number of unrenewed firearms, with 6,427.
Negros Occidental followed with 6,257, Bacolod City with 5,171, Iloilo City with 5,063, Capiz with 3,688, Aklan with 1,873, Antique with 1,811, and Guimaras with 548.
Borio said that all police chiefs and other units will be reminded to intensify their campaign against gun owners who fail or refuse to renew their licenses.
“Dapat mapa-renew na sila sang ila armas kay kun pabay-an nila makabig na ina nga loose firearms kag we have to apply a search warrant, makasuhan sila. But they have an option: pwede nila ma–deposit sa nearest police station,” Borio said.
The spokesperson added that the Philippine National Police’s “Oplan Katok” program is still ongoing.
“Ang aton pulis maga panoktok sa mga balay sang gun holders to remind them of their obligation na mapa-renew,” she said./PN
