MANILA – No Filipino citizens were hurt during the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse in Baltimore, Maryland on Monday, according to the Philippine Embassy in Washington DC.
Consul Mark Dominic Lim said in a statement that they were closely monitoring the situation.
“No Filipino citizen on the bridge or the ship was reported injured or killed in the incident,” said Lim.
The Embassy is also inquiring if there are Filipino crew members aboard the Singaporean cargo ship that rammed the bridge.
Based on initial investigations, the Singaporean cargo ship sent a distress call, prompting the closure of the bridge before it collided with its structure.
Authorities in Baltimore are still determining if the six construction workers who were fixing potholes and fell into the Patapsco River when the bridge collapsed may have died.
Maryland and Baltimore have been placed under a state of emergency as search and rescue operations for the missing victims continue.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation, however, has declared that the collapse of bridge is not related to terrorism.s/PN
