THE Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) said it has issued more than 100,000 digital taxpayer identification numbers (TIN) IDs.
BIR Commissioner Romeo D. Lumagui Jr. said as of March 25, 2024 they have issued a total of 102,046 digital TIN IDs.
The digital TIN ID serves as a valid government-issued identification for various transactions with government agencies, employers, financial institutions, and other parties. Its authentication is facilitated through a Quick Response (QR) code, providing convenience and security to taxpayers.
Individuals with existing TINs can apply for a digital TIN ID through the ORUS platform, which is accessible online.
Lumagui reiterated that the digital TIN ID is free and cautioned against engaging with online sellers offering TIN ID assistance, emphasizing the risks associated with obtaining invalid or fake IDs.
He also clarified that both physical TIN cards and digital TIN IDs are valid proofs of TIN ownership, and taxpayers with digital TIN IDs are not required to obtain physical cards.
Lumagui said the BIR is committed to enhancing taxpayer services and advancing digital initiatives to align with the government’s Ease of Doing Business agenda. (ABS-CBN News)
