Negrense Bedonia carries PLDT hitters past SGA in PVL

MANILA – Kiesha Bedonia made the most of the opportunity given to her to lead PLDT High Speed Hitters to a 25-12, 25-21, 25-17 rout of Strong Group Athletics in the PVL 1st All-Filipino Conference on Tuesday night at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

The Talisay City, Negros Occidental native rookie finished with a career-high of 16 points to go with eight excellent receptions as the High Speed Hitters tied the Choco Mucho Flying Titans on top with a 7-1 win-loss slate.

“I seized the opportunity provided by my coaches and remained confident throughout,” said Bedonia. “As we look ahead to our last three matches, our team is committed to rigorous training and thorough preparation.”

Shiela Kiseo and Jules Samonte contributed 11 markers apiece for the High Speed Hitters, which rested starters Savannah Davison, Kim Fajardo, Mary Joy Baron, Erika Santos, and Kath Arado from second set onwards.

“’Yun naman ‘yung game plan all along (na gamitin ‘yung second-stringers). Happy kami na na-activate lahat (ng players) saka nag-perform nang maayos,” said High Speed Hitters head coach Rald Ricafort.

Sheeka Espinosa and Dolly Versoza led the way with six points apiece. Mary Joy Onofre scored five markers and Sousan Raslan and Andrea Rebleza made four points apiece as the SGA dropped their eighth straight game.

Meanwhile, NxLed Chameleon kept their semifinals hopes alive following a 24-26, 25-20, 25-23, 20-25, 15-11 triumph over Farm Fresh Foxies. The Chameleons improved to 3-5, while the Foxies dropped to 2-6.

Ivy Lacsina led the way for the Chameleons with 21 points, while Chiara Permentilla had a near triple-double numbers of 16 points, 16 excellent receptions, and eight excellent digs.

The Foxies started the fifth set with an 8-5 advantage, but the Chameleons turned things around with a 7-0 blast behind Permentilla, Ebon, and Macaslang as they took a 12-8 advantage.

Farm Fresh cut the deficit to 10-12 behind Chinnie Arroyo and Trisha Tubu, but they committed back-to-back errors to send the Chameleons at matchpoint before Victoria secured the win with a block on Foxies’ Kate Santiago./PN
