Grass fires in Antique leave P40-M damage

ANTIQUE – This province has been reeling from the aftermath of devastating grass fires this month.

Data from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) showed damages due to grass fires in 11 municipalities have reached P40,977,500.

The town of Anini-y was the most affected with approximately 71.93 hectares of land fell victim to grass fires, with damage pegged at around P40 million.

Other towns that have experienced widespread grass fires were Caluya, Patnongon, Sibalom, Valderrama, Culasi, San Jose, Bugasong, Tibiao, Belison, and San Remegio, Antique PDRRMO said.

It added, however, that the grass fires have not resulted to any casualty or damage to properties or livelihoods of residents.

The provincial government, through the PDRMMO, is currently assessing the extent of the damages in order to provide assistance to those affected./PN
