GUIMARAS – This island province is fielding a total of 392 athletes hoping for an improved performance at the forthcoming 2024 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet slated on May 2to 7 in Negros Occidental.
This was confirmed by Jesa Obligar, Education Program Supervisor for MAPEH of the Department of Education – Guimaras.
Contrary to previous years, Obligar said Guimaras will be participating in all sporting events at the WVRAA Meet this year, thus, the increase number of athletes to be sent to the competition.
Gov. JC Rahman Nava has expressed support for the Guimaras delegation and challenged the athletes to improve their performance.
The governor is hoping that Guimaras will surpass its achievement in last year’s WVRAA where it placed fifth in the overall medal tally.
The province also took home special awards that include Best in Uniform, Best in Saludo, and Most Festive Delegation.
Some P7.6 million was allocated by the provincial government for the entire delegation this year.
The amount will cover the training expenses, food, uniforms, and sports equipment of the athletes that will represent the island province to the regional sports tilt. (PIA6-Iloilo/GuimarasPIO)/PN
