KALIBO, Aklan – Authorities identified a “person of interest” in Makato fatal shooting following the arrest in Madalag town on Tuesday, April 30.
The 35-year old Delsol Zonio Jr., a resident of Barangay Polo, Banga, Aklan was taken into custody by the Makato Municipal Police Station.
Zonio was flagged down in a police-established checkpoint in Barangay Venturanza, Banga on Monday night, April 29, but the suspect engaged the officers in a car chase.
On Tuesday morning, police recovered an abandoned car in the riverbank of Barangay Balagtasan in Madalag. Zonio was arrested after he was positively identified by Banga policemen as the Mitsubishi Mirage driver who fled from the routine police checkpoint.
Banga police chief Captain Benny Jones Mendoza said the suspect is facing charges for reckless driving, resistance and disobedience to an agent of a person in authority.
Recovered from Zonio were P23,500 in cash, coins, drug paraphernalia, and various identification cards during the initial search.
On Tuesday night, while serving the search warrant, law enforcers seized six plastic plastic sachets of suspected shabu and aluminum foil inside the abandoned car.
Zonio will also be charged for violations of Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002).
In a related development, the get-away motorcycle used in the deadly shooting of J&T Express employee in Makato was recovered in Zonio’s house in Barangay Polo, Banga yesterday morning.
On April 27, victim Jan Andrei Bolido, 23, and a resident of Barangay Tondog, Tangalan town, was shot dead in a robbery incident in Barangay Dumga, Makato.
He succumbed to a gunshot wound on the left side of his body.
Makato police said Bolido was about to board a truck to go to the bank to deposit money when an unidentified man approached him and declared holdup.
The suspect then shot the victim and seized the plastic container containing approximately P200,000 in cash.
The suspect and his companion fled on a motorcycle towards Poblacion, Makato.
Police added that Zonio and his companion were reportedly employed in Kalibo Tigayon hub of the express courier company./PN
