BACOLOD City – This city needs an additional 2,000 units of minibuses, according to the city government following a simulation exercise or pilot testing of routes under the city’s Local Public Transport Route Plan (LPTRP).
Only around 500 to 600 mini buses are currently operating in the city, data from the City Administrator’s Office showed.
According to City Administrator Lucille Gelvolea, under the LPTRP 24 routes were identified and 1,099 minibuses are needed to operate.
The additional mini buses would help open new, extension and developmental routes.
Gelvolea also confirmed that another transport group is currently in the process of applying for consolidation at the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).
Meanwhile, following the April 30 deadline for jeepney consolidation, Gelvolea said the city government has standby vehicles to be deployed in case there are stranded passengers.
The city administrator also encourages barangays to deploy their own vehicles to assist in transporting stranded residents./PN
