ILOILO – The grand finale of The Supreme Debates 2024 will see the teams from the Municipality of Oton and the Municipality of Santa Barbara competing against each other on May 10. This follows their victories in the semi-finals held at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol.
In the first match of the semi-finals, the Municipality of Oton emerged victorious over the Municipality of Igbaras, successfully arguing in favor of adopting a parliamentary government system in the Philippines.
Marianne Chloe M. Secular from Oton was recognized as the Best Debater and Best Speaker of the match.
The other semi-final match witnessed the Municipality of Santa Barbara defeating the Municipality of Ajuy. Their proposition argued that the Philippines should prioritize economic ties with China, despite concerns over territorial sovereignty.
Julian Carlo L. Suizo of Santa Barbara was awarded Best Speaker and Best Debater for his performance.
The upcoming finals, under the theme “Catalyzing Change in Changing Times”, will feature the Oton team opposing and the Santa Barbara team debating a yet-to-be-announced proposition.
The Supreme Debates is organized by the Department of Education’s Schools Division of Iloilo, the Youth Formation Division, the Division Federated Supreme Secondary Learner Government, and in partnership with the Panlalawigang Pederasyon ng Sangguniang Kabataan – Iloilo Province./PN
