AKLAN – A total of 8,307 family food packs were distributed by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 6 to families affected by the El Niño phenomenon in this province.
As of April 16, the recorded damage from El Niño in the province reached P30.19 million.
DSWD-6 released a total of P38,899,484.90 worth of assistance to El Niño affected families in the region, serving 63,824 family food packs to 63,824 families in 39 cities and municipalities, as of May 2.
Atty. Carmelo N. Nochete, director of DSWD-6, said they are doubling their efforts in providing family food packs to affected families.
“Our ‘angels in red vest’ will always do their best to help El Niño affected populace subsist this drought season,” Nochete said.
Last week, the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) of Western Visayas has already heightened its alert status to blue in response to the ongoing El Niño phenomenon, enhancing monitoring and coordination efforts across the region to mitigate potential adverse effects.
The RDRRMC highlighted that Aklan was in a “dry” condition last month but may face drought this May./PN
