KALIBO, Aklan – The Metro Kalibo Water District (MKWD) has taken ways to cushion the impact of El Niño to water consumers in its service coverage areas in Aklan.
The coverage areas and the communities have experienced diminishing sources of potable water due to severity of dry spells.
Most recently, the safe water provider asked the assistance of Aklan governor Jose Enrique Miraflores for Aklan river rechanneling to allow the free-flow of water near the MKWD’s pumping stations.
“Na-observe natun kadasig magnubo ru tubi sa Aklan River, naastanan ru ibang wells natun. Naghina gid man ru capacity it tatlong pumping stations sa Tigayon Kalibo ag sa Palale Banga. Kabay nga indi magbuhay dayang pagsinalak,” said MKWD general manager Engr. Lydio Ureta said
MKWD, a Huwarang Lingkod Bayan awardee in the Philippine Waters Awards 2024, has 11 pumping stations in Kalibo and Banga and a pumping station of Datem Water, Inc. for bulk water supply.
Ureta has urged the water consumers in MKWD service coverage areas to conserve water during the dry spell and prolonged El Niño in the province.
Monitor the water bill, reuse water from laundry to flush toilet, turn off water while soaping hands and brushing teeth, put faucet aerators on sink faucets, and regularly check water lines for leaks, the MKWD reminded the concessionaries.
To stabilize the water distribution, MKWD has also embark in distribution line projects in the service coverage areas of Kalibo, New Washington, Balete, Batan, and Banga.
The safe water provider has been operating for 48 years to provide affordable safe and potable water to its more than 25,000 household connections./PN
