BACOLOD City – Senior citizens residing here can continue using their old identification cards, confirmed Councilor Celia Flor, who chairs the Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Senior Citizens.
This announcement comes after reports that a local fast food chain refused to accept the outdated IDs.
The confusion arose from a recent push by the city government to update these IDs with new PVC versions featuring QR codes.
Despite the updates, the old IDs remain legally valid for life, emphasized Flor.
She urged all local businesses to respect the existing IDs.
The issue may have stemmed from a misunderstanding linked to a recent announcement by the city government’s Department of Social Services and Development, which stated that old IDs for persons with disabilities (PWDs) would become invalid post-April 30.
Flor clarified that this does not apply to senior citizen IDs.
Businesses that fail to honor the old IDs could face penalties, warned Flor./PN
