ROXAS City – A total of 103 families displaced by the February 27 fire in Rizal Street, Barangay 7 in this city received their wages for a 21-day community service.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 6 released a total of P1,038,240 in cash assistance. Each beneficiary received P480 per day or P10,080.
Atty. Carmelo Nochete, DSWD-6 director, and Mayor Ronnie Dadivas led the payout at the Dinggoy Roxas Civic Center here on Tuesday, May 14.
They were joined by Disaster Response Management Division (DRMD) chief Erlyn L. Garcia, DRMD-Early Recovery and Rehabilitation Section head PDO III Reynante Lasay and DRMD-Disaster Response Section head Wesley Angelo Barayuga.
“Ini nga payout kabaylo sang 21 ka adlaw nila nga pagtrabaho agud malimpyuhan, matamnan kag mapatahum ang palibot sang ila bag-o nga puluy-an or relocation site sa Tanzaville,” said Mayor Dadivas, who also expressed gratitude to the DSWD-6 for the cash-for-work program.
Over a hundred houses were consumed by the fire on Rizal Street, that broke out around 1:15 p.m. on Feb. 27.
Two senior citizens had also died.
Senior Fire Officer 4 Terrence A. Himan, chief operating officer of the Bureau of Fire Protection-Roxas City, said the blaze reached “third alarm” status.
Punong Barangay Nilo Diestro, meanwhile, alleged that the cause was unattended cooking./PN
