ILOILO City – Police yesterday filed a string of criminal charges against the driver of a sports car involved in a hit-and-run incident in Pavia, Iloilo on June 1.

The Pavia Municipal Police Station charged suspect Rudolph Chavez de la Rosa, alias Bobot, with murder, frustrated murder, and malicious mischief before the Office of the Iloilo Provincial Prosecutor.

Dela Rosa, a 60-year-old businessman from Barangay Rizal Ilaud, Calinog, Iloilo, was brought to the prosecutor’s office for inquest proceedings before Assistant Provincial Prosecutor Susanita  Orleans.

Rave Catalopez Garcia, 33, and his wife, Shefryl Joice, 23,  were onboard their bicycle when a sports car hit them on the night of June 1, 2024, in Barangay Pandac, Pavia.

Garcia, a call center agent, died on the spot. Shefryl said dela Rosa intentionally ran over her husband.

An eyewitness also told the police he saw how the sports car maneuvered to reverse and ran over the victim intentionally several times. The witness said the car left hurriedly when other cars were coming.

Mayor Jerry Treñas earlier offered a P50,000  reward for anyone that could provide  information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect.

“I am deeply saddened to know that the biker who was hit and killed by a sports car in Pavia, Iloilo was a scholar under our Uswag Scholarship Program,” said Treñas.

He commended the Pavia police for filing the charges and urged the fiscal’s office to fast-track the process.

“I am likewise calling for the cancellation of license of all firearms owned by the suspect; and for the LTO (Land Transportation Office) to immediately work on the revocation of his driver’s license. We should not let this kind of criminal behavior perpetuate in a peaceful society like ours in Iloilo,” said Treñas./PN
