ILOILO City – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 6 assured Negrenses displaced by the Kanlaon Volcano eruption that they will not starve in evacuation centers.
Pero ang DSWD, we just encourage them to evacuate and we assure them nga hindi sila magutman kung mag-evacuate sila,” said Atty. Carmelo Nochete, director of DSWD-6.
The DSWD-6 has distributed a total of 1,632 family food packs to the affected individuals as of June 9, data from the agency’s Disaster Response Operations Management, Information, and Communication (DROMIC) showed.
It has also deployed its state-of-the-art Mobile Command Center equipped with satellite internet, two laptops, two printers, scanner, camera, and big power banks, as well as 5KVA generators that can be used in affected areas.
Additionally, the agency offered a crash course in camp coordination and camp management for the quick response teams and representatives of affected local government units (LGUs) for better and proper management of evacuation centers and displaced families.
Five LGUs were affected by the June 3 eruption of Kanlaon Volcano: La Castellana, La Carlota City, Bago City, Moises Padilla, and Murcia./PN
