Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on Friday confirmed the appointment of Santiago. He will replace Medardo de Lemos.

Santiago, who made headlines in the 1990s as a sharpshooter with the Manila Police District (MPD), served at the Philippine National Police (PNP) Western Police District from 1979 to 2000.

He was also a former Deputy Chief of the elite Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team of the MPD.

Santiago, a law graduate from Manuel L. Quezon University (MLQU-LAW), was named presiding judge of the Metropolitan Trial Court (MeTC) Branch 12 in 2005 and was promoted to presiding judge of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 3, Manila in 2011.
