MARVIN Agustin reminded his followers to be vigilant, revealing that there are online scammers using not only his name and photos but also his voice with the help of AI.
Agustin released a statement addressing the matter through his official Instagram page on Saturday, June 15.
“To all my followers as Marvin Agustin or ‘Tito Marvs,’ I would like to inform you that we have received several reports of social media accounts pretending to be me or my representatives selling various products,” he said.
“These impersonators are using my name, photos, and videos, as well as manipulating my voice using AI,” he added.
The actor-businessman then provided the link and handle to his official Facebook, Instagram and TikTok pages, as well as the links to his stores.
“We urge everyone to report any suspicious posts on online platforms. Thank you very much for your understanding and support,” he concluded.
Agustin is the most recent celebrity whose identity has been used to deceive people. Others who fell victim to this as well were Vice Ganda, Jak Roberto and Lea Salonga, among many others.
Meanwhile, given that the use of AI has been prevalent with the technology advancements, the public is advised to protect themselves from AI voice scams by fact-checking and verifying, listening for unusual cues, and avoiding sharing one’s voice online. (Anne Pasajol © Philippine Daily Inquirer)
