CAPIZ – Gov. Fredenil H. Castro is optimistic that the Capiz Provincial Government will pass the regional assessment for the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) 2024.

On Tuesday, June 18, the Regional Assessment Team (RAT) led by Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Region 6 director Juan Jovian E. Ingenerio, DILG-Iloilo director Engr. Carmelo F. Orbista, and Jeezalyn Khey V. Fuentes carried out the assessment.

Aside from Gov. Castro, also present during the evaluation at the provincial capitol were DILG-Capiz director Cheryl Tacda, Provincial Focal Person Rozel Langurayan, and Provincial Information Officer and Human Resource Management Office concurrent head Atty. Luvim D. Amores.

Six agencies and offices under the provincial government were evaluated.

According to DILG-6 RAT representative Henesey Gasataya, Local Government Operations Officer V, the assessment team focused on the following:

* full disclosure board and persons with disability compliance of the provincial capitol and Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital;

* provincial library and youth development center at the Capiz Government and Business Center;

* evacuation area and facilities of Capiz gymnasium;

* Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office Operation Center; and

* Tourist Assistance Center of Roxas City Airport.

Dubbed as the “mother of all awards,” SGLG is the highest distinction given to local government units (LGUs) that exemplify transparency and accountability.

To pass the SGLG, LGUs must pass these 10 assessment areas: Good Financial Administration; Disaster Preparedness; Social Protection and Sensitivity Programs; Health Compliance and Responsiveness; Programs for Sustainable Education; Business-friendliness and Competitiveness; Safety Peace and Order; Environmental Management; Tourism, Heritage Development, Culture and Arts; and Youth Development.

The SGLG, as an institutionalized award, incentive, honor, and recognition-based program, continues to uphold its commitment in bringing about inclusive and people-oriented reforms that will enable the LGUs to foster culture of good governance amid the challenges in the local government landscape./PN
