BACOLOD City – Free ride, or libre sakay, resumed in this city yesterday but is only limited for commuters at the Barangay Cabug route.

This initiative, which will run until Saturday, June 29, aims to check if the proposed Barangay Cabug (Deca Homes) to Libertad Loop route can be included in the enhanced Local Public Transport Route Plan (LPTRP) of this city.

Cabug village chief  Jennifer Pintucan said the first day of the green route dry run yesterday was deemed successful with the cooperation of the tricycle operators and drivers association.

To recall, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Region 6 issued a special permit for the operation of eight units of mini-buses in the two green routes: Barangay Cabug (Deca Homes) to Libertad Loop; and Abada Escay and Arao, Barangay Vista Alegre to Burgos (point-to-point) and Vista Alegre barangay hall to Libertad Loop.

The Barangay Vista Alegre route dry run was launched last month.

Under the city’s LPTRP, 24 routes were identified and 1,099 minibuses or consolidated jeepneys are needed to operate.

Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said once the green routes will be approved, the city will have a total of 26 routes./PN
