MANILA – Sara Duterte-Carpio said she plans to return to local politics after her vice-presidential term while younger brother and incumbent Davao City mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte is being eyed to run for the presidency in 2028.
According to Duterte-Carpio, she was advised by her mother, Elizabeth Zimmerman, to return as Davao City Mayor in the 2028 national and local polls and don’t pursue the presidency.
“Ang ingon sa akong mama, magdagan ug senador akong manghod si Baste (in 2025), sya ang modagan ug president sa 2028. Ang ingon sa akong mama, mobalik daw ko sa Davao ug mayor,” Duterte said in an ambush interview in Cagayan de Oro City.
Duterte-Carpio also said she won’t step down as Vice President after recently resigning as secretary of the Department of Education and co-vice chairperson of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC).
“No, I will not resign (as Vice President). Walang ganoon na usapan,” Duterte-Carpio said.
The Vice President also said in the same interview that her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, is planning to return to politics as senator in the 2025 midterm elections.
Baste, along with Davao lawmaker Paolo Duterte, will also be running for senator, Duterte-Carpio added.
“Lahat sila raring na tumakbo eh, si PRRD ay senator, iyong kuya ko si Paolo Duterte, ‘yung congressman ngayon, senator, at si Sebastian Duterte. Yes, tatlo ang Duterte for senator. Yes confirmed ‘yan,” Duterte-Carpio said./PN
