AKLAN – Thirteen passengers were rescued after a motorboat capsized in the municipal waters of Kalibo town during the feast of St. John the Baptist on Monday, June 24.
According to the Kalibo police station, their officers on duty at the Lambingan beach received a report that a motorboat capsized due to inclement weather near the port at the town’s Barangay Pook.
Kalibo police along with the officers of the Bureau of Fire Protection-Kalibo and Coast Guard Station-Aklan and rescuers from the Aklan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) and Kalibo Municipal DRRMO were quick to respond in the area.
Criminology student John Antonie Esto also helped in the rescue operation
The rescued passengers, Kalibo police said, were on their way home from Bahura Island.
Of the 13 passengers, 11 were brought to Dr. Rafael S. Tumbokon Memorial Hospital for outpatient treatment, police added./PN
