BACOLOD City – Almost 126 delegates attended the Negros and Siquijor Island Region Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Summit hosted by the Victorias City Government in Negros Occidental on Friday, July 26.
The Alliance of Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officers in Negros Island Inc. (ADDRMONI) initiated the summit with the theme, “One Disaster Resilient Region.”
Victorias City’s Mayor Javier Miguel Benitez, in his welcome message, said the summit fosters the importance of unity and fellowship in building a more disaster-resilient Negros Island Region (NIR).
“We are here, empowered by our collective determination to build a more resilient future, a future where our communities cannot only weather the storms but emerge stronger,” he added.
The mayor also shared to the attendees that in Victorias City, they are committed to implement measures to proactively mitigate risks and prepare for the inevitable.
“This is why we invest so much in prevention because preparedness is always paramount,” Mayor Benitez said.
And, he added, with the strong alliance and collaboration in the NIR, “we can all achieve so much more in our respective cities and municipalities.”
“The safety and welfare of our people, the security of our economies, and our future depend on our collective action as one region. Let us move forward, united in one purpose, to build a future where disaster risk reduction and management is not just a policy, but a way of life,” the mayor further said./PN
