USLS’ Ciocon claims 2 PRISAA medals

LEGASPI City – Mickaela Ciocon of Negros Island Region captured two medals in the tertiary badminton event of the 2024 PRISAA National Games here.

The University of St. La Salle-Bacolod standout captured her gold medal with Clarence Villaflor of Northern Negros College in the tertiary mixed doubles event.

Ciocon then settled for a silver medal finish with schoolmate Lettice Quinal in the tertiary women doubles event after losing in the finals against Region 7.

Athena Tashcuh Sonota of USLS, meanwhile, took home a gold medal in the tertiary women singles badminton event, defeating Region 7 in the finals match.

Ian JP Naranja, also from USLS, also bagged a gold medal in the secondary boys badminton singles after prevailing over his Western Visayas’ opponent. 

Lui Lomugdang, meanwhile, settled for bronze medal in the tertiary men’s singles, while the tandem of John Ababao and John Saturinas also ended with bronze in tertiary men’s doubles.

Meanwhile, the Negros Island Region secondary boys football team, represented by players from University of St. La Salle, STI-West Negros University, and University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos emerged with gold medal.

The NIR ruled the secondary boys football division following a 1-0 victory over host Bicol Region on their homecourt in their tightly-contested gold medal match.

In swimming, tertiary’s Mark DeSimone and Carla Labayen took home a silver and bronze medal, respectively, while Juliana Dejilla claimed a silver in secondary event.

Meanwhile, USLS’ Janelle Faye Villa also contributed a bronze medal for NIR in the tertiary women’s 55 kg kumite event./PN
