TO DETER ON-ROAD PARKING: Iloilo City intensifies clamping ordinance enforcement

ILOILO City – The city government through its City Traffic and Transportation Management Office (CTTMO) has started its intensified implementation of the clamping ordinance to crackdown illegal parking of vehicles.

The ordinance, or the Regulation Ordinance (RO) 2014-191, amended by RO 2015-049, incorporates the use of wheel clamp as a method being employed to immobilize motor vehicles in non-parking zones.

Uldarico Garbanzos, head of Uldarico Garbanzos, said the city currently has 40 medium wheel clamps, 20 large wheel clamps, and 50 motor wheel clamps.

He added that the CTTMO personnel underwent training and practical demonstration on how to use the wheel clamp.

The CTTMO operates against on-road parking from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mondays to Sundays in the following areas:

City Proper

* Bonifacio Drive, Gen. Luna Street, Fermin Caram Avenue, J.M. Basa Street from junction Fermin Caram Avenue until junction with Rizal and Zamora Street, Ledesma Street, Iznart Street, Rizal Street, Delgado Street until Fermin Caram Avenue through Mabini Street, Mabini Street to Ledesma and Gen. Luna streets, and Valeria Street to Ledesma and Gen. Luna streets, and Rizal Street

Molo

* San Marcus Avenue, M.H. del Pilar, Infante Avenue from junction with M.H. del Pilar Street until junction with Lopez Jaena Street, and Lopez-Jaena Street from junction with Avanceña Street until junction with M.H. del Pilar

Mandurriao

* Benigno Aquino Avenue

La Paz

* Luna Street

Jaro

* Around Jaro Plaza, Washington Street, El 98 Street, Simon Ledesma Street, Lopez-Jaena Street, Simon Ledesma Street to Jaro Plaza until Central Philippine University, and E. Lopez Street.

The ordinance provides a penalty of P1,000 for light vehicles; P1,200 for medium vehicles; P1,500 for heavy vehicles; and P5,000 for the unauthorized removal of the wheel clamps./PN
