BACOLOD City – To regulate street vending and facilitate upcoming road clearing initiatives, the city government announced plans to conduct a comprehensive inventory of street vendors.
City Administrator Lucille Gelvolea cited the growing concerns from local businesses regarding vendors who obstruct shopfronts, particularly in bustling downtown areas.
Gelvolea described the situation as an eyesore and indicated that the city aims to relocate vendors to designated zones to alleviate congestion.
One proposed solution is the establishment of a night market on Fr. M. Ferrero Street, which would consolidate various vendors, including those selling fruits and dry goods, into a single area.
The city is also exploring collaboration with SM Prime Holdings Inc. to accommodate vendors displaced by the road clearing. Discussions are ongoing about utilizing part of the mall’s parking area, especially for flower vendors affected by the expansion of Fr. M. Ferrero Road.
A forthcoming dialogue with the street vendors is planned following the inventory, to inform them of the city’s plans and gather their feedback. The schedule for the road clearing operations remains under finalization, according to Gelvolea./PN
