APPROXIMATELY 2,500 years ago Aesop said, “A man is known by the company he keeps” and the sentiment is still apt today and in fact is being used in the current election speeches by Kamala Harris.
By inference, she is casting doubt on the people who would vote for Donald Trump, given that she has pointed to his convictions for rape, fraud and his association with a porn star. A much greater set of failings than her laugh.
Many of the Trump supporters are Fundamentalist Christians with strong beliefs which is a puzzling group of supporters given his misdemeanors that are well-known.
It would seem almost a rejection of their own beliefs if they tolerate his failings, although a major premise of Christianity is forgiveness of any sin if they repent.
Trump has not yet repented.

Butt out
Not that we really need a reason to ban them, but now in Britain, and probably many other countries, they have found the vapes often contain some dangerous drugs including the “zombie drug” Spice, and this is in vapes found at schools.
It might be time to ban them in general use with legitimate users buying them from chemists, although I doubt that a chemist with integrity would sell them.
As this is a fairly unregulated item, from unknown suppliers there is always a chance for addictive drugs to be added or for normal poisonous chemicals to be included as happens with old fashioned cigarettes.
Time to ban all forms of smoking. No exemptions.

Commentators skating on thin ice?
Like most of the world I am watching the Olympics.
There are sports that I know well and have participated in, athletics, tennis and soccer. There are others I know but haven’t participated in, equestrian, diving and gymnastics.
But there is one I don’t know anything about – skateboarding.
Australia has some excellent skateboarders so I watched it but didn’t understand the scoring except the zeroes for falls.
I could make a judgment, based on the number of slides, turns and balance but it wasn’t always right. There is a need for explanation of the probable difficulty as with the diving where you were told what moves it was composed of.
We want a factual commentary, not a colorful one as it is always more interesting if you understand what is happening.
Also, could someone explain how “Solo Synchronized Swimming” worked? (dennis.fitzgerald.letters@gmail.com)/PN
