WV cops nab 572 fugitives, seize 401 guns

ILOILO City – A total of 572 wanted persons were arrested across Western Visayas for the month of July, the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) said on Sunday, August 4.

Of the number, 66 were classified as most wanted persons (MWPs) and 506 as other wanted persons (OWPs).

The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (PPO) recorded the highest number of arrests at 260 (14 MWPs and 246 OWPs), followed by the Iloilo PPO with 117 arrests (22 MWPs and 95 OWPs).

Other units and their arrests are the following:

* Capiz PPO – 12 MWPs and 33 OWPs

* Iloilo City Police Office – two MWPs and 39 OWPs

* Bacolod City Police Office – six MWPs and 37 OWPs

*Aklan PPO – four MWPs and 19 OWPs

* Antique PPO – four MWPs and 18 OWPs

* Guimaras PPO – one MWP and 11 OWPs

* Regional Mobile Force Battalion 6  – one MWP and seven OWPs

* Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Regional Field Unit 6  – one MWP

The PRO-6’s relentless efforts toward a gun-free community also enabled the seizure of 401 assorted firearms and 56 explosives in a monthlong operation.

Data showed that 332 of which were confiscated through soft hand approach, including those abandoned, deposited and surrendered, while 69 were confiscated through iron hand approach.

PRO-6 director Brigadier General Jack Wanky lauded the hard work and dedication of the police personnel and unit commanders across the region.

“Congratulations and keep up the good work. These arrests were the product of your collective effort in our manhunt operations. Let us work harder to look for the remaining wanted persons in the region,” Wanky said./PN
