ILOILO City – A man died after a pickup truck ran over him on Benigno Aquino Avenue, Barangay San Rafael, Mandurriao district around 1:15 a.m. yesterday, August 18.
According to Patrolman Arman Angcoy, traffic investigator of the Mandurriao police station, the victim was lying on the middle of the road when the pickup truck driven and owned by alias “John”, 31, ran over his head.
Angcoy noted that the victim remained unidentified as of this writing due to the severe head injuries caused by the impact. He added that the victim did not have any identification card or cellular phone, with only a set of keys found in his possession.
“This is still under thorough investigation. We are reviewing all CCTV (closed-circuit television) camera footages in the area to determine what actually happened, including whether the victim was intoxicated and fell onto the road, leading to the accident,” Angcoy told Panay News.
He also said that in his interview with the driver, he found no signs that he was under the influence of alcohol, as he appeared coherent during their conversation.
Mandurriao police urged the public to report any missing persons or coordinate with them regarding any information that could help identify the victim.
As of this writing, the victim was being held at the morgue of the Western Visayas Medical Center, awaiting identification by his family.
The pickup truck driver, meanwhile, was taken into custody by the Mandurriao police station. He may face charges for reckless imprudence resulting to homicide./PN
