Biñan clobbers Caloocan in Maharlika PVA debut

MANILA – Biñan Tatak Gel Volley Angels made their Maharlika Pilipinas Volleyball Association debut in style as they edged Caloocan AM Spikers, 25-20, 25-23, 23-25, 26-24, at the Alonte Sports Arena in Binan, Laguna.

May Anne Nuique spearheaded the offense with 20 points, built on 19 attacks and one block, as the Enderun College Lady Titans-reinforced Volley Angels cruised to a 1-0 win-loss slate.

Negrenses Shane Carmona and Erika Jin Deloria finished with 14 markers apiece, while Zenneth Irene Perolino chipped in 13 markers in the Volley Angels’ impressive victory.

Veteran Aiko Sweet Urdas, on the other hand, top-scored with 19 markers for the AM Spikers, which was dealt with the injury of Bernadeth Flora in the second set of the match.

The Volley Angels will attempt for their second straight victory against Rizal XentroMall Golden Coolers this afternoon, while the AM Spikers will battle Negros Blue Hawks also today.

Quezon Tangerines, composed mostly of players from College of St. Benilde Lady Blazers, notched their second victory in as many games after beating the Golden Coolers, 25-14, 27-29, 25-19, 25-14.

Rhea Mae Densing led the way with 24 points, built on 21 attacks and three blocks for the Tangerines, which kicked off their campaign with a dominant win over Valenzuela Classy last week.

Cristy Ondangan contributed 14 markers, while Shahanna Rheign Lleses and Mary Grace Borromeo ended 13 and 11 points, respectively for Quezon, one of the new teams in the MPVA.

San Juan Lady Knights-Go for Gold finally secured their first win of the season with a come-from-behind 22-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-18 victory against the Classy.

Raissa Janel Ricablanca led the way with 20 points for San Juan, while Alyanna Nicole Ong, Chamberlaine Cuñada and Florence May Madulid had 18, 13 and 12 points, respectively./PN
