Major Falco, who was born in Barangay Candelaria, Tapaz, had previously been awarded the United States of America Congressional Gold Medal in 2018 for his valor and service during the WWII. His leadership and bravery, particularly in the “Battle of Balantang” in Jaro, Iloilo City in February 1945, have been immortalized in the book “Courage Amidst Chaos”, which details his role as the commander of K Company of the 6th Regimental Combat Team.

“This is a great historical twist that makes us realize the strategic role and relevance of our municipality in the liberation of Panay from the Japanese occupation during World War II. It is with profound honor that we acknowledge the unforgettable legacy of bravery, valor, and sacrifice of our veterans for the freedom and independence we now enjoy,” said Vice Mayor Somo.

“This honor brings so much joy and pride in our family, not only today but also for future generations of our lineage. Our great-grandchildren will speak of their ancestors being part of creating history and making immeasurable contributions during the most difficult of times, in an era when the world was in turmoil,” Mr. Falco said.

He spoke of his father’s journey from humble beginnings to becoming a major in the Philippine Army, emphasizing the values of discipline, resilience and service that Major Falco embodied throughout his life.

“The narrative of my father’s struggles from a young boy born in a family of simple means to becoming a major in the Philippine Army is a testament to the discipline and dedication he applied in supporting himself to attain an education. His unwavering support for his siblings to complete their college degrees while providing for his own young family demonstrated exemplary resilience, patience and immense understanding of forward planning, problem-solving, and resourcefulness,” Mr. Falco Jr. stated.

He added: “These values were always present when we were growing up. He displayed strong role-modeling principles embedded in the daily practice of respect, loyalty to family, and service in the community. He made a mark wherever he went, in whatever he did with careful consideration for doing what is right.”

Reflecting on his father’s legacy, Mr. Falco highlighted the establishment of Camp Moses, a nonprofit organization dedicated to community capacity-building projects in Tapaz. With the guidance of Ms. Grace Falco, a Community Capacity Building Specialist, the Falco family aims to develop infrastructure that will foster community involvement, promote local tourism, and enhance the municipality’s competitiveness.

“My father taught us to give back to the community, and for the Falco family, Camp Moses is the epitome of that value. It is hoped that when people read the book about his life, they, too, will find courage amidst the chaos in any situation they may face, that we will always be given the opportunity to wake up to possibilities, and we always have the freedom of choice and control to create our own destiny,” Mr. Falco heartwarmingly expressed.
