Man yields ‘shabu’, gun in Candoni checkpoint

BACOLOD City – A 40-year-old man was caught with illegal drugs and illegal firearm at a police checkpoint in Purok 2, Barangay Caningay, Candoni, Negros Occidental.

Officers of the Candoni Municipal Police Station (MPS) noticed that the motorcycle-riding Marlon Benitez, a resident of the town’s Purok Rose, Barangay Poblacion East, tried to evade the checkpoint on Sunday, August 25.

He was later arrested after a brief chase with police.

Recovered from his possession were three grams of suspected shabu worth around P20,400 and a homemade .357 gun.

The suspect was taken into custody by the Candoni MPS.

He will be charged for violation of Republic Act (RA) 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act) and RA 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002)./PN
