Man arrested in foiled motorcycle theft

ILOILO City – A swift response by local authorities led to the arrest of a suspected motorcycle thief in Mandurriao district here on Sunday afternoon, September 1.

The suspect, identified as alias “Ronald,” 42, and a resident of Barangay Hibao-an Norte, Mandurriao, was apprehended while attempting to steal a parked Honda motorcycle belonging to a call center agent in the district’s Barangay Airport around 5 p.m.

According to the victim, alias “Mari”, 36, of Barangay 3 Poblacion, San Miguel, Iloilo, she parked her motorcycle at the side of the road and went to a nearby sari-sari store.

Mandurriao police added that before targeting Mari’s motorcycle, the suspect had initially attempted to steal another motorcycle owned by alias “Lando,” the chief of tanods in Barangay Airport.

The suspect is currently in police custody. He will face charges for violation of Republic Act 10883, also known as the New Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016./PN
