GUIMARAS – This island province saw a decrease in the number of traffic accidents this year.

From January 1 to August 15, the Guimaras Police Provincial Office (GPPO) recorded 126 road accidents.

At the joint Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) and Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council (PADAC) meeting on August 28, GPPO director Colonel Rhea Santos said the number, which comprises crime incidents under public safety indicator, is 24.09 percent lower than the 166 accidents logged in the same period last year.

Santos added that the decrease in the number of traffic accidents was due to the intensified implementation of traffic ordinances and checkpoints by the police.

GPPO data showed that from January 1 to August 16 this year, they have conducted 2,355 checkpoint operations across the province.

The GPPO chief further said that the checkpoint operations are for the good of everyone as manifested by the decline in the number of road accidents.

For his part, Gov. JC Rahman A. Nava, who serves as the chairperson of PPOC and PADAC, praised the GPPO for the efforts undertaken to reduce traffic incidents in the province./PN
