ILOILO – A tornado struck four barangays in the municipality of Cabatuan around 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 18.
According to the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), seven houses were destroyed and 37 others were partially damaged. The breakdown of these houses per affected barangay is: Tacdangan, 22; Gines Interior, 12; Ayaman, five; and Sulanga, five 5.
MDRRMO record also showed that Puga Integrated School in Barangay Gines Interior suffered damage, with the roof of the Home Economics building severely affected. Additionally, a nearby house was crushed by an uprooted narra tree.
As of this writing, clearing operation was underway in the affected areas.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development, Municipal Agriculture Office, Municipal Engineering Office, and Bureau of Fire Protection are set to conduct ocular inspections to assess the full extent of the damage.
The local government of Cabatuan, meanwhile, has provided food packs and financial assistance to the affected residents./PN
