GUIMARAS – The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-Guimaras Provincial Statistical Office continued its efforts to bring the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) services closer to residents through its barangay and house-to-house registration strategy.
For the third quarter of 2024, PSA-Guimaras registered 4,740 residents across the province, or 43.14% of its target for the quarter.
Provincial Statistics Officer Nelida B. Losare said the concerted effort to facilitate on-site registrations has been essential in reaching remote and underrepresented communities.
“Since July, we have worked closely with the barangay officials and community leaders to ensure that every eligible resident, particularly those in far-flung areas, has the opportunity to register for PhilSys,” Losare said.
This month alone, or as of September 24, PSA-Guimaras recorded 2,045 registrations.
Losare shared that of the total registrations, 1,056 or 51.63 were children aged one to four years old.
“This initiative is crucial in ensuring that even the youngest members of the population have their PhilSys IDs, which will eventually serve as their official proof of identity for various government services,” she said.
Aside from barangay and house-to-house initiatives, PSA-Guimaras also implemented PhilSys on wheels, school-based registration, plaza-type registration, and sitio or purok registration to enhance further its outreach.
These initiatives aim to ensure that registration is convenient and accessible, no matter where and what location and circumstances are.
Through PhilSys, Losare said, the government aims to create a more streamlined and efficient identification system for all citizens, enhancing access to services and promoting social and financial inclusion.
“For those who have yet to register, the PSA encourages residents to take advantage of the ongoing registration drives happening in their barangays or through house-to-house visits,” the provincial statistics officer added./PN
