MANILA – Biñan Tatak Gel 1-Pacman Partylist Volley Angels handed Quezon Tangerines their first defeat in the 2024 MPVA season with a come-from-behind 14-25, 14-25, 25-23, 34-32, 15-8 triumph on Thursday at the Marikina Sports Center.

Mary Ann Nuique finished with 24 points, built on 22 attacks, one block, and a service ace, to be named Player of the Game as the Volley Angels returned to their winning ways with a 6-3 win-loss slate.

Nung mga naunang sets talagang nangangarag kami, talagang may gusto kaming patunayan as a team, na gusto talaga naming talunin ang Quezon,” Nuique said in a post-game interview.

“Pero ‘yun nga, nung third set kami nagising kasi naka 2-0 na ang Quezon, naging mas kalmado kami, and tingin ko isa ‘yun sa naging key kaya kami nanalo sa larong ito,” she added.

The Tangerines, on the other hand, suffered their first defeat after winning their first nine matches in the competition.

Meanwhile, Rizal St Gerrard Charity Foundation Golden Coolers moved up to second place in the standings with an 8-2 record following a 25-23, 25-18, 25-19 victory over Marikina Lady Shoemasters (0-10).

Veteran setter Venice Puzon’s leadership and playmaking skills helped the Golden Coolers overcome the Lady Shoemasters’ intimidating crowd, earning her the Player of the Game honors.

Caloocan AM Spikers, on the other hand, opened their second round campaign with a thrilling 25-23, 20-25, 22-25, 25-17, 15-13 victory over San Juan Lady Knights Go For Gold.

May Ann Pantino-Deflem was named Player of the Game after a 19-point performance for the AM Spikers, now with a 4-5 win-loss slate. The Lady Knights slumped to a 2-7 record./PN
