ILOILO City – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) recorded 128,165 new voters in this city and Iloilo province following the conclusion of the voters’ registration on September 30.

The voter registration period ran from February to September 2024, attracting 128,165 new applicants across Iloilo City and various municipalities in the province.

The monthly breakdown of new registrants is as follows:

* February – 9,500

* March – 10,664

* April – 13,114

* May – 14,540

* June – 16,045

* July – 16,506

* August – 16,061

* September – 31,541

As of July 15, 2024, the total number of registered voters in Iloilo City and province stood at 1,615,087.

The voter distribution per congressional district, including Iloilo City, is as follows: 1st District, 229,437; 2nd District, 219,534; 3rd District, 271,458; 4th District, 261,496; 5th District, 313,868; and Iloilo City, 319,194.

This number is expected to rise as the data from August and September 2024 registrants have not yet been included.

Provincial Election Supervisor Reinier Layson estimated that the total number of registered voters for the May 2025 elections would exceed 1.6 million by the end of the Election Registration Board hearing on October 14.

In addition to the new registrants, Layson noted that 32,226 voters from Iloilo City and province had been deactivated this year. These individuals were removed from the voter list after failing to participate in two consecutive regular elections.

“Although the number of deactivations is significant, we are confident that the new registrants will make up for this,” said Layson.

He also emphasized that those who failed to register by the September 30, 2024 deadline would not be able to vote in the May 2025 elections.

Layson advised unregistered individuals to wait for Comelec’s announcement regarding the resumption of voter registration for future elections./PN
