MANILA – De La Salle University Green Archers forward Kevin Quiambao is favored to clinch his second consecutive UAAP MVP award following his strong performance in the first round of Season 87 men’s basketball tournament.
The Muntinlupa City native is currently the leader in the men’s basketball MVP race with his 87.571 statistical points (SPs) after averaging 16.43 points, 8.86 rebounds, 5.43 assists, and 1.29 steals in seven games for the Green Archers.
University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons guard JD Cagulangan is in second place with his 77 SPs with his 13.4 points, 6.0 assist and 4.4 rebound averages in five games played.
Quiambao’s Green Archers teammate, Mike Phillips, ranks third with 72.143 SPs, while University of the East Red Warriors Precious Momowei (62.286 SPs) and Far Eastern University Tamaraws’ Mohamed Konateh (63.571 SPs) conclude the top five.
Placing 6th to 10th in the MVP race are University of Santo Tomas’ trio of Forthsky Padrigao (62.429), Mo Tounkara (60.0), and Nic Cabanero (55.857), DLSU’s Joshua David (55.857), and UP’s Quentin Millora-Brown (54.714).
Meanwhile, Negrense Kent Jane Pastrana of UST Growling Tigresses is currently running second in the UAAP Season 87 Women’s Basketball Tournament MVP award race.
The Silay City, Negros Occidental-native Pastrana has a total of 84.714 statistical points (SPs) after leading the Growling Tigresses to a 6-1 win-loss record after the first round of eliminations.
Pastrana, the UAAP Season 86 Athlete of the Year, is currently the leading performer for defending champions Growling Tigresses, tallying 121 points, 64 rebounds, 19 assists, and 16 steals across her seven games.
Ahead of Pastrana is Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles’ Kacey dela Rosa, who is poised for her second consecutive MVP trophy after a 90.143 SPs in the first round of the tournament.
Dela Rosa had totals of 150 points, 103 rebounds, nine assists, seven steals, and 15 blocks over seven games as they head to the second round of eliminations with a 4-3 mark./PN
