ILOILO – A senior citizen died after being hit by a vehicle while crossing the pedestrian lane in Barangay Bolong Oeste, Santa Barbara town, on Saturday evening, October 19.
Norma Berden, a resident of the said barangay, sustained severe injuries to her head and body. She died while receiving treatment at Western Visayas Sanitarium.
According to the Santa Barbara Municipal Police Station, Berden suddenly crossed the street, which caused her to be hit by a vehicle driven by John Paul Ho, who was reportedly on his way to the Iloilo International Airport.
Despite Ho’s efforts to avoid Berden, his vehicle’s side mirror struck her, causing her to fall and sustain fatal injuries, police added.
Santa Barbara police said the Berden family has decided not to file charges against the driver after they reached an amicable settlement./PN
