Bacolod ‘most business-friendly city’ for 3rd time

BACOLOD City – This city has been named the “Most Business-Friendly Local Government Unit in the Philippines” for the third time.

The award was presented during the 2024 Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) Awards at the Marriott Hotel in Pasay City on October 23.

The city emerged victorious among five finalists in the City Level 1B category, competing against Baguio City, Cagayan de Oro, Iloilo City, and Mandaue City.

The final judgment for the award took place on October 4.

Councilor Em Ang, former City Administrator under ex-Mayor Evelio Leonardia, said this is the third occasion Bacolod has received this recognition, this time under the administration of Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez.

The previous wins in 2007 and 2021 were during Leonardia’s terms.

The award criteria included fast-tracking sustainable local economic development, ease of doing business initiatives, investment promotion efforts, and enhancing sectoral competitiveness.

According to Councilor Ang, Bacolod’s digitized business processes and active promotion in sectors such as business process outsourcing and information technology were instrumental in securing the win.

Receiving the award, Mayor Benitez expressed his gratitude and emphasized the award’s significance.

“This is a victory for all Bacolodnons as we continue to drive growth, innovation, and opportunities in our city,” he said.

The accolade is expected to boost the local economy by attracting more investors to the city./PN
