Septuagenarian killed by ‘flying’ roof during storm

ILOILO – A 77-year-old man died after he was struck by the roof of his house which was ripped off by strong winds brought by Tropical Storm Kristine in Barangay Bagacay, San Rafael town in this province.

According to barangay kagawad Kim Jun Dusaran, he received a call from a concerned citizen around 9 a.m. on October 24, asking for assistance to send a rescue vehicle. Upon arrival with the rescue team, they found the lifeless body of the elderly victim known as Lolo Pilo.

Lolo Pilo had been widowed for decades and Was survived by one child. His daughter, Jean Jovillo, was devastated upon learning of her father’s death.

Meanwhile, Corazon Paclibar, the widow who had been separated from him for years, expressed her deep sorrow and distress upon hearing of the tragedy.

Authorities said Kristine left significant damage in the province’s 5th District, flattening several rice fields and destroying houses./PN
