Robredo, Abalos meet in Naga to assist typhoon victims

NAGA CITY, Camarines Sur — Former Vice President Leni Robredo and senatorial candidate Atty. Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr. met to extend help to the victims of Typhoon Kristine, which left severe damage and flooding in Naga City’s barangays.

Despite avoiding media presence, the two were photographed by some residents. Robredo met Abalos at the airport, where they immediately discussed plans for more effective aid distribution to the affected areas.

Abalos turned over his personal donations to Robredo’s foundation.

In addition to personally delivering aid, both Abalos and Robredo launched donation drives through their social media accounts to encourage contributions to various organizations.

According to local government reports, over 10,000 families in Camarines Sur were affected by Typhoon Kristine, with more than 2,000 needing to evacuate due to continued flooding. Approximately 50 people were injured, and some residents are still reported missing. The typhoon caused extensive damage to homes, crops, and infrastructure, prompting immediate relief operations from agencies and private groups.

In a statement on social media, Abalos emphasized the importance of focusing on helping others rather than on personal publicity in times like these.

“Many areas in Luzon are flooded due to the destruction brought by Typhoon #KristinePH. Beyond collective prayers, now, more than ever, we must unite in extending help to our countrymen affected by the typhoon,” read one of Abalos’ Facebook posts.

Abalos said it is time to come together to help Filipinos impacted by Typhoon #KristinePH, especially in the Bicol region.

““Panahon para magkaisa. Maraming mga kababayan natin ang tinamaan ng bagyong #KristinePH lalo na po ang rehiyon ng bikol. Anuman ang ating maibabahagi—gaano man ito kaliit—kapag pinagsama-sama, makakabuo tayo ng makabuluhang pagbabago. Sama-sama tayong umaksyon para sa mas mabilis na pagbangon ng ating mga kababayan at ng bansa,” Abalos said in a Facebook post.

Abalos also called for aid for farmers severely affected by the typhoon and urged the public to donate to the Philippine Animal Welfare Society to help animals affected by the storm.
