BACOLOD City – The City Government of Bago in Negros Occidental has intensified its campaign as a preventive measure amid the increasing number of dengue cases in the city.
Data from the Provincial Health Office (PHO) showed that from January to October 19 this year, dengue cases in the province reached 5,108, with 15 deaths.
Bago City recorded the highest number of cases with 560, followed by Hinobaan with 404, San Carlos City – 394, Sagay City – 331, Talisay City – 323, Kabankalan City – 321, Cauayan – 289, Cadiz City – 279, Silay City – 276, and Sipalay City – 273.
Mayor Nicholas Yulo said that even just one case of dengue is already alarming.
He said they have already taken actions with the City Health Office (CHO) conducting meetings before the onset of the rainy season.
The mayor added that they focused on searching for and eliminating mosquito breeding sites to reduce dengue cases.
“Ang CHO is very consistent in reporting dengue cases. As far as population is concerned, ang Bago City is one of the local governments with the biggest population outside of Bacolod City. In terms of percentage gid man sya daku, but the numbers of course follow the population,” Mayor Yulo said.
Dengue is a viral disease transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes, particularly Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus. Symptoms typically include high fever, severe headache, pain behind the eyes, joint and muscle pain, rash, and mild bleeding. In severe cases, dengue can progress to dengue hemorrhagic fever, which can lead to blood plasma leakage, organ impairment, and even death./PN
