ILOILO City – The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) has ramped up security efforts for the 44th CityNet Executive Committee (ExeCom) Meeting, which kicked off yesterday, November 18, at the Iloilo Convention Center (ICON) in Mandurriao district.
The meeting has attracted an estimated 100 delegates, including ambassadors and high-ranking officials from both local and foreign cities.
In an interview with Panay News, Lieutenant Colonel Rene Obregon Jr., chief of the City Operations Management Unit of ICPO, detailed the comprehensive security measures in place.
“We have secured the Iloilo Convention Center, the main venue for the event. Inside the ICON, we have deployed 17 personnel, while outside, additional support includes our Quick Reaction Team and covert personnel, or a total of 65 officers on duty per day,” Obregon said.
To further ensure the safety of the delegates staying in the city, the ICPO has also stationed police assistance desks at the three designated hotels. These desks operate 24/7 to provide assistance and maintain security throughout the duration of the meeting.
The ICPO led by Colonel Kim P. Legada began its security coverage on Sunday, November 17, aligning with the arrival of the delegates. The police presence was bolstered at key locations, including the ICON and other sites around the city that were visited by the delegates.
“We started our security operations on Sunday with increased police visibility and assistance at various locations,” Obregon added. “We hope for favorable weather and look forward to the city government successfully showcasing its programs during the 44th CityNet meeting. Our goal is to provide the necessary security coverage for a smooth and safe event.”/PN
