NEGROS Occidental – A 42-year-old fisherwoman drowned in the sea off Barangay Old Sagay, Sagay City here yesterday morning, November 19.
The victim was identified as Marjorie Ayco, married and a resident of the city’s Purok Maninawaon, Barangay Taba-ao.
According to the Sagay City police, Marjorie went fishing with her husband, Reman Ayco, near the waters of Baliguian Island, Concepcion, Iloilo, using their small motorized banca.
While returning home, about 500 meters from the Old Sagay Port, the couple’s boat was struck by a large wave, causing Marjorie to fall into the sea around 10: 35 a.m.
Reman immediately jumped into the water to save his wife but was unsuccessful due to the depth and strong currents. He then returned to the boat to retrieve a buoyant ring and went back to search for Marjorie, but she was nowhere to be found.
Local rescuers later recovered Marjorie’s body and rushed her to a nearby hospital but she was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician./PN
