CAPIZ – A 31-year-old man died after his shotgun accidentally went off during a motorcycle accident in Barangay Sta. Cruz, Ivisan town in this province.

The victim identified as alias “Joe,” a resident of Barangay Maalan, Maayon, was driving his motorcycle with the 22-year-old alias “Ikoy” as his back rider on their way home from Sapian town on November 24.

Major Ruby Magallanes, chief of the Ivisan Municipal Police Station, said the accident occurred on a rough section of the road.

The motorcycle reportedly skidded, causing Joe to lose control of the vehicle and they fell on the ground.

Magallanes said the 12-gauge shotgun Joe was carrying inside his sling bag accidentally fired, hitting him on the left side of his chest.

“Ikoy” sustained minor injuries from the crash. Both victims were rushed to the hospital but Joe was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Further investigation revealed that the firearm was loaded with live ammunition and unlicensed.

Police speculate that Joe may have been carrying the shotgun for personal protection. A background check on the victim found no criminal records or involvement in illegal activities./PN
